AOM 2020 conference information from Professor Charles Wankel

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are doing well and staying safe during this difficult time period. You are receiving this e-mail since you are listed as a participant in one of our division’s accepted PDWs. Thank you again for your efforts submitting great PDWs for the 2020 AOM Meeting!

As you are undoubtedly aware, AOM made a decision to make the 2020 conference virtual a couple weeks ago. While MANY details are still being worked out, I attended a briefing a couple hours ago where some preliminary information was relayed that I thought you would be interested in.

1) The conference will occur on the same dates using a platform based on zoom. More details will be provided by AOM soon.

2) Conference rates will lower than the regular annual conference, but the actual rates are still be debated.

3) AOM has set a rough target that 90% of sessions will be presented asynchronously (i.e. pre-recorded). We have a little bit of flexibility here, but this almost certainly means that vast majority of our PDWs will be pre-recorded. This does not mean that there will be no interactivity, as there will be ways to comment on presentations, and discuss these online, etc. More details on the specifics of this will be forthcoming from AOM.

Related to this point, I would request the chairs of each accepted PDW to let me know by next Wednesday (May 27) whether or not it would be possible to conduct your session asynchronously. Additionally, if any PDW chair believes their PDW cannot be run in a virtual environment, please let me know that as well. For those of you who are assuming presenter or other roles in the PDWs, please communicate directly with your chairs regarding PDW organization.

4) During surveys that were conducted with division leadership, it was found that Doctoral and Junior Faculty consortia were the most important sessions to maintain in a synchronous (I.e. live) fashion. These will both be included in the synchronous part of the program for our division.

5) It may also be possible to schedule a few PDWs in a synchronous fashion before the AOM Meeting and record them to then have available in an asynchronous fashion during the meeting. Please contact me if you are interested in doing this for your PDW.

6) AOM is looking to learn from this experience to potentially add some virtual elements to the 2021 Meeting as well.

I know that there are a lot of unknown aspects of the conference right now. Please be patient as AOM sorts through these details. I will keep you updated as I learn more from my end. Our division leadership will also have a division-specific meeting with AOM in the next few weeks, where I expect a lot of details will be ironed out. Thank you again for your support of the IM Division!

Stay safe and healthy!

Bill

Professor Peter Odrakiewicz and David Odrakiewicz MA,PhD (Cand) were invited to a
a new book project under the working title Implementing PRME in the time of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – the challenge, possibility or threat?

A message from Editors is below
„As members of the UN-PRME Working Group on Anti-Corruption and as editors of the book series in Information Age Publishing(IAP) Charlotte, NC, USA, Wolfgang Amann and myself would like to start a new book project under the working title Implementing PRME in the time of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – the challenge, possibility or threat?

We would like to invite you to this book project as the author(s) of one chapter and will really appreciate if you join us!

This book is scheduled to be published by Information Age Publishing (IAP) in 2020.

The ambition of this book is to offer prospective readers guidance on topics of interest for the more than 700 PRME signatory institutions worldwide and to establish an indispensable educational resource for responsible management education in academic and executive education.

We know this deadline is tight in terms of planning, yet if you are interested in the project, please forward by no later than September 10th, 2019:

– the title of your chapter proposal,

– short (about 100 words) description of the chapter content,

– your brief bio (100 -150 words).

Below you can find detailed information about our project and detailed publication schedule.

We think it will be a great scientific adventure and we will be happy if you join us. We hope for your positive response!

Call for Chapter proposals

Implementing PRME in the time of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – the challenge, possibility or threat?

Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch, Canadian University Dubai and Wolfgang Amann, HEC Paris in Qatar,

Editors

In September 2011, Cleverbot, the chatbot has passed the Turing test which is a test of a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior

We may expect that[i] by 2030, some 800 million jobs will have disappeared and taken over by machines and artificial intelligence will reach human levels by around 2029. Follow that out further to, say, 2045, we will have multiplied the intelligence, the human biological machine intelligence of our civilization a billion-fold.

The time of machines requires new forms of work and new ways of business education.

So we may put 6 core questions:

how will AI impact the business education world?
how may AI be used /or is a threat for PRME implementation?
how may AI be used for teaching anti-corruption?
what we should teach (what the ‘right’ set of future skills is)?
how we should teach (the way in which schools should teach and assess them),and
where we should teach (what implications does AI have for today’s education infrastructure)?
We invite proposals for chapters on how may Artificial Intelligence be used for PRME implementation, anti-corruption teaching, and how will AI change the world of academia.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

How do we educate people for an AI world?

How may we use AI during the process of PRME implementation?

Can we change education fast enough to outpace the machines?
Will college/ university degrees still be important?
What are the most important skills needed to succeed in the workforce of the future – what the ‘right’ set of future skills is?

How will AI change/ impact management and business world?

Which of these skills can be taught effectively via online systems?

What should we teach to stop robots stealing our graduates’ job?

What implications does AI have for today’s education infrastructure?

What are the moral aspects of Artificial Intelligence in management education?

What changes might need to be made to curriculum and assessment to be able to fulfill the new need of next generation of students?

If schools must prepare students for a AI world, what implications does this have for today’s education infrastructure?

If schools must prepare students for a AI world, what implications does this have for today’s teachers?

PUBLICATION SCHEDULE:

acceptance

„Dear Peter and David,

The Editorial Board of Review has completed its peer review of more than 50 chapter proposals for our Implementing PRME in the time of Artificial Intelligence (AI) – the challenge, possibility or threat? volume and yours was one rated very highly that is accepted for inclusion in this book.

This book will be published by Information Age Publishing, Charlotte, NC, USA. As mentioned in the call for chapter proposals that you responded to, our publication schedule will be:

Receipt of full book chapters: December 20th, 2019

Chapter authors receive reviews with feedback: February 5th, 2020

Final revisions due: March 5th, 2020

The review process will enlist all chapter authors to do peer reviews of a number of other chapters in our project. This endeavor will largely take place in February 2020.

We expect you to use APA style. Information on this format is readily available by Googling “APA style,” and also by buying the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. It is incumbent upon you to check bibliographic databases for related, recent articles and books on the subjects of your chapter. When you cite a chapter in an anthology volume, you must include the pages of that chapter in your citation just as you would for an article. Before you provide us with your chapter draft, it is a requirement that you confirm that all sources cited in the text are listed properly in the bibliography and that all items listed in the bibliography are cited in the text. Contractions are colloquialisms inappropriate in formal writing. All direct quotes must include in their citation the page number from the article or book that the quote is from. Although there is some flexibility in chapter length, We would not be surprised by a chapter of between 6000 and 10,000 words. All figures and tables should be included as separate files in their native software. So for example, an image might be provided in JPEG and should not be included in the text file. Indicate where an exhibit or table might appear with a centered statement on its own line in bold 14-point Arial font stating in capital letters:

TABLE 1 SHOULD APPEAR ABOUT HERE

Your text file should be double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font.

We will be sending you a publication agreement form for you to sign and return. We also request that you send us by March 5th

2020 discussion of highlights of your chapter in about 200 words. We will use that to help us craft our introductory chapter providing an overview of the book.

Although we have received brief bios for chapter authors as part of the submission process, we will request revised ones by the March 5th 2020. Different publishers suggest different lengths for these, but generally they are 50-100 words. We sometimes need to ask about something quickly and would greatly appreciate your sending us your full contact information to facilitate that. Given the situation of academic faculty members with office hours and vacations and trips, we request that you send us your mobile, office, home, and Skype telephone information (if you do not mind us contacting you via them). Also, confirm the email address that you prefer receiving communications from us at. We would appreciate your providing us with the name and location of the institution you are affiliated with.

Please send ALL communications, drafts, and forms to: Agata Stachowicz-Stanusch astachowicz@polsl.pl and Wolfgang Amann amann@hec.fr

2019 Annual Humanistic Management Conference in Poland
10. October – 11. October
The 2019 Seventh Annual Humanistic Management Conference will take place on October 10. and 11. 2019 in Krakow, Poland organized and sponsored by the Institute of Culture of Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Cracow University of Economics, Silesian University of Technology and the Weltethos Institute.

Business is not a self-serving exercise as we rightfully expects business to make a positive impact on society, acting with solidarity and actively catering to the common good. While this expectation stands in conflict with a singular focus on maximizing shareholder value, we argue that it is fully aligned with Humanistic Management principles which aim to deliver sustainable value along the triple bottom line.

Title: Forming International Teaching Networks Short Title: International Teaching Network Abstract: This session is designed as a forum for sharing experiences and best practices of international collaborations in teaching as well as a venue to share prospective projects with a mind to acquiring collaborators from other nations. International collaboration spanning national boundaries has a storied history. The Silk Road nations developed collaborations several centuries BCE. The Greek, Roman, Persian, and Egyptian empires all fostered the sharing of learning. Some ancient centers, such as Timbuktu, have survived into our time. Some nations have rich traditions of international collaboration and many have strong centers of learning. Other countries might have one institution that is the center of international collaboration or in some cases might have several competing centers that dissipate the resources available for such endeavors. By bringing together scholars from nations that have been underrepresented in crosscountry partnerships with those from wellfunded and experienced institutions that our discipline of management will be enhanced. It is our hope that colleagues who have developed strong teaching exchanges and experiences will explain them to others here. Certainly, the current social technologies support virtual team meetings of students from all over the world. Abstract: Management researchers find themselves within boundaries— institutional, national, topical etc. This session is intended to promote hurdling over boundaries to create new rich interfaces with colleagues around the world.Sharing experiences and best practices of international research collaboration with a mind to the issues associated with acquiring collaborators from other nations. The governance structures that traditionally negotiated such endeavors ought to be revisited considering new modes of collaboration and information parsing, such as crowdsourcing. Other countries might have one institution that is the center of international collaboration or in some cases might have several competing centers that dissipate the resources available for such endeavors. Discussion of bringing together scholars from nations that have been underrepresented in crosscountry partnerships with those from wellfunded and experienced institutions that our discipline of management will be enhanced. It is my hope that colleagues who have developed strong research exchanges and experiences will reach out to their peers. Certainly, the current interfaces of social technologies support virtual team meetings of students from all over the world. How international collaborations reflect and differ from domestic ones will be also a topic. The relevancy of the literature on research collaborations generally for international partnering will be importantly addressed.
